Soup Kitchens
In an ongoing Soup Kitchen project, Rotary supports five soup kitchens which serve disadvantaged members of the community at various feeding points. These include churches and the homes of volunteers. The people served are the elderly, the sick and children. Meals are delivered in some cases should the recipient be bed or wheelchair bound. There is a soup kitchen available every day from Monday to Thursday for those community members in particularly desperate need.
At Christmas time, when the soup kitchens take a short break, the Hampers of Love provide basic food hampers to families or individuals who would normally make use of the soup kitchens during the rest of the year.
The Okkie Smuts Koshuis is also supported with fresh vegetables, fruit, pasta, porrage and rice on a weekly basis. Volvertroue frail care centre receives a weekly vegetable donation.
Food parcels are supplied weekly to particularly vulnerable people who are unable to visit the soup kitchens.
We are very grateful for the generous support received from all members of our community.
