Soup Kitchens
In an ongoing Soup Kitchen project, Rotary supports six soup kitchens which serve disadvantaged members of the community at various feeding points. These include churches and the homes of volunteers. The people served are the elderly, the sick and children. Meals are delivered in some cases should the recipient be bed or wheelchair bound. There is a soup kitchen available every day from Monday to Thursday and a small food bank opens on Fridays for those community members in particularly desperate need.
At Christmas time, when the soup kitchens take a short break, the Hampers of Love provide basic food hampers to families or individuals who would normally make use of the soup kitchens during the rest of the year.
The Okkie Smuts Koshuis is also supported with fresh vegetables and fruit on a regular basis.
