Early Childhood Development

PROJECT

Early Childhood Development

ECD programmes are vital in the pre-school years.  Rotary supports two registered pre-schools as well as a group of ECD Practitioners who teach children from very poor homes the basics, so preparing them properly for the start of their school careers.  These lessons take place in their homes at no cost to the parents.

Due to financial constraints of the families, they also educate parents on how to easily teach their children by making educational aids out of recyclable materials such as cereal & egg boxes, toilet rolls, etc.  Puzzles, shapes, alphabet, counting and colour are all covered with virtually no expense.

Family-in-Focus (ECD)
Backpacks containing basic stationery items were provided to the team of 10 members who carry out a home-based early learning program for pre-schoolers.

PROJECT

Mother & Child

Here we focus on the first 1000 days in a baby’s life, from conception to 2 years old.  Advice is shared with pregnant and new moms on the basics for good brain development in the baby as well as their own input as far as nutrition, play, a child’s needs, safe environment, etc are concerned.

Some basic items, such as blankets, clothing and toiletries, are presented to new mothers who are in need of assistance.
